Heresy is teh funneh

This being the Lord’s Day and all, perhaps it’s a good time to roll out this amusing little exchange I saw linked at a favorite discussion board of mine. Texas is pretty much the font of all theocratic evil these days, and the link features state government officials engaged in a lively debate over which member of the Holy Trinity authored the Old Testament. Thankfully, a former state official stepped in and ended matters by establishing that the other participants in the discussion are heretics.

Reading such lunacy almost makes me want to see the Establishment Clause repealed. The consequences would likely be awful, but it would almost be worth it to see these folks butchering one another in the street over who’s belief system gets to become the official state religion.

The governor of Texas just appointed a creationist as chairman of the state board of education.

“Don McLeroy, a dentist, was named chairman of the panel by Gov. Rick Perry, to please the religious bigots and cretins who run Texas.

“(McLeroy) is one of the board members aligned with social conservative groups known for their strong stands on evolution, sexual abstinence and other heated topics covered in textbooks. One of four board members who voted against current high school biology books because of their failure to list weaknesses in the theory of evolution.”

    Lovely. Way to go, Rick.

By all means, let’s teach all public school children the weaknesses in the theory of evolution. Do we also get to teach them the weaknesses in the notion that the Triune Godhead created the universe from whole cloth in 4004 B.C.E.?

Nah, that would be a clear violation of the babies’ Free Exercise Clause rights.
